Thank You Thursday: One Good Deed Deserves Another

I’m sure most of you have seen the movie Pay it Forward. Starring Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osment it was about a young boy who as part of a social studies class came up with an idea that he thought could help change the world. Let this short scene refresh your memory;

The movie was based on the book of the same title by Catherine Ryan Hyde and in recent years a movement has been filtering around the world. After hearing people’s skepticism around the Pay it Forward idea, Blake Beattie challenged it by saying that “people are genuinely giving by nature, but many get caught up in the hustle and bustle of every day life“. So he started Pay it Forward Day, to give people the opportunity to experience the power of giving.

And today, April 26, is Pay It Forward Day.

The day is about all people, from all walks of life, giving to someone else and making a positive difference. At last count there were more than 500, 000 people in 38 countries around the world participating on the day.

People who want to get involved can go to their website and download Pay it Forward cards so that when they do their three good deeds they can leave a card for the recipient explaining the idea.

The concept really harnesses Gandhi’s proposition to ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’ and a massive, positive ripple effect continues as Pay it Forward cards travel around the globe with each good deed that is completed.

And on this Thank You Thursday, the Fish Chick not only acknowledges both Catherine Ryan Hyde and Blake Beattie for helping promote the concept, but encourages you to get involved. Visit the website, get your cards and get going. And remember, “If you have much, give your wealth; if you have little, give your heart”.

See you in the pond,

The Fish Chick.
